We are on the lookout for a part-time ICT Mentor who brings a passion for helping lower-ability students in a secondary school setting. This role requires dedication, creativity, and a knack for connecting with students who need extra support to thrive in their educational journey. You’ll be working with small groups of children, helping them to build confidence and achieve success in their ICT studies.

Responsibilities:
- Deliver Engaging and Effective ICT Lessons: Your primary responsibility will be to deliver high-quality ICT lessons tailored to the needs of lower-ability students. This involves using a variety of teaching methods and tools to make the subject matter accessible and engaging, ensuring that every student can grasp the basic concepts and skills.
- Create a Positive and Inclusive Classroom Environment: Foster a classroom atmosphere where every student feels safe, supported, and encouraged to participate. This means setting clear expectations, being consistent with rules and consequences, and showing empathy and understanding toward each student’s unique challenges and strengths.
- Provide One-on-One and Small Group Support: Spend time working closely with individual students or small groups who need extra help. This might include re-teaching concepts, providing additional practice opportunities, or simply offering words of encouragement and support.
- Assess Student Progress Regularly: Use a variety of assessment tools to monitor student progress, identify areas of need, and provide feedback that helps students improve. This could include quizzes, projects, informal observations, and one-on-one discussions with students about their work.
- Work Collaboratively with Colleagues: Engage with other teachers and staff members to develop and adapt the ICT curriculum. Share insights and strategies, participate in planning meetings, and contribute to a team effort to provide the best possible education for all students.
Qualifications:
- We welcome applicants with various qualifications. While a formal teaching certificate is a bonus, it is not strictly necessary. What’s most important is your ability to connect with students and deliver effective instruction.
Experience:
- Proven Experience with Lower-Ability Students: You should have a track record of working successfully with lower-ability students in a secondary school setting. This experience should demonstrate your ability to tailor your teaching methods to meet the needs of these students and help them achieve their potential.
- Strong ICT Skills: You must have a strong understanding of ICT concepts and the ability to make these accessible to students with varying levels of ability. This includes familiarity with basic computer skills, internet safety, software applications, and other relevant areas.
- Excellent Classroom Management: You should be adept at managing a classroom, maintaining order, and creating a positive learning environment. This includes setting clear expectations, being consistent with discipline, and fostering mutual respect among students.
- Passion for Student Success: Above all, you must have a genuine passion for helping students succeed. This means being patient, persistent, and positive, and always believing in the potential of every student to improve and achieve their goals.
Hours:
- Part-time – 2-3 days a week, with the possibility of additional hours. This flexible schedule allows you to dedicate focused time to the students who need it most while balancing other commitments.
